VCCA Membership Categories

There are five Categories of coaches in the VCCA depending on your current coaching status and qualifications:

Category 2 COACH : A member who has completed the National qualification of Level Two and has been issued with an Australian Sports Commission (ASC) card and update book from Canberra. The ASC card is valid for a four-year period.

Category 1 COACH : A member who has completed the National qualification of Level One and has been issued with an Australian Sports Commission (ASC) card and update book from Canberra. The ASC card is valid for a four-year period.

Category C CADET : A member who is currently in the Cadet program, or who is undertaking the Level One program, or an actively assisting member who has expired Level One or Two qualifications. This is also the initial membership category for new members.

Category R RECREATIONAL : Recreational Coach who is undertaking or has completed the Recreational Level 1 course.

Category A ASSOCIATE MEMBER : A member who has been a Category 1 OR 2 member but is not actively coaching in the current calendar year (they may have current or expired Level One or Two qualifications). Voting rights are extended and these members are exempt from attending meetings.

Maintaining VCCA Membership

All members have a responsibility to ensure that they fulfill the requirements listed under the VCCA Constitution and Bylaws.

For Category 2, 1 or R coaches these requirements are:

  • Must be a financial member (i.e. membership fees must be paid by the AGM each year)
  • Attend two Member's Forums during each calendar year
  • Own an ACF Calisthenic Technical Guide
  • Maintain a current First Aid Certificate or Nursing Registration at all times
  • Maintain a current Working With Children Check or VIT Registration at all times
  • Must have Professional Indemnity Insurance. (If own PI Insurance, please provide details to Registrar)

Note: This is separate to maintaining you Level 1 or 2 qualification for Category 2, 1 and R coaches. Refer to the Coach Education Section for maintaining Level 1 or 2 qualifications.

Category C and A coaches MUST

  • Pay their membership fees by the AGM each year.

Attendance Requirements

If a Category 2, 1 or R coaches is unable to attend two Member's Forums during a calendar year, they will need to apply in writing for attendance exemption for that calendar year. Examples include: country coaches who are a long distance from existing forum venues, coaches with serious illness, coaches with extreme study commitments which require significant travel during forum times. If your request is successful, you will not be deregistered for failing to attend 2 Members Forums.

In all instances, documentation should be supplied to support the request. The request will be taken to the next available committee meeting for discussion and you will be advised by mail or email whether your request has been approved.

Suspension of Membership

Suspension of membership can be applied for by any member. Reasons could include overseas travel, family commitments or study commitments. This will put your membership on hold with the VCCA and you are therefore not required to pay annual membership fees. While your membership is suspended, you are not permitted to coach callisthenics, you will not receive any newsletters or information from the VCCA, and at the end of the year you will not receive annual renewal papers.

To resume membership, apply in writing by email or mail to the VCCA office and new membership papers will be issued to you. Note:If you were a Level 1 or 2 qualified coach prior to suspending membership, you are not required to maintain your First Aid or Working With Children Check while your membership is suspended BUT you must supply new copies of these qualifications before your membership papers will be accepted.

Note: This is separate to gaining a Leave of Absence from your Level 1 or 2 qualification for Category A coaches. Refer to the Coach Education Section for Leave of Absence and note this will require an additional application in writing to the VCCA.

Resigning Membership

Resignation from the VCCA can be advised by any member. Please write via email or mail when you decide to cease membership to avoid a potential deregistration for failing to pay membership fees by the AGM.

You can rejoin the VCCA at any time after resigning membership but note that if you wish to rejoin as a Level 1 or 2 qualified coach, you will need to have a current First Aid certificate or Nursing Registration, a current Working With Children Check or VIT Registration, and have previously purchased an ACF Calisthenic Technical Guide.

Note: First Aid, Working With Children Check and ACF Technical Guide are required to rejoin the VCCA but to have your Level 1 or 2 qualifications valid as well you will need to comply with the requirements noted in the Coach Education section. VCCA membership and valid Level 1/2 qualifications are two separate requirements.

Life Members

Life membership voids the requirement to pay membership fees each year. Life Members are therefore Category A as retired coaches or Category 2, 1 or R as qualified coaches. Although membership fees are not required, if you are a Category2, 1 or R coach you would need meet all other requirements as mentioned above.

Transferring Membership Between State Coaching Associations

If you are transferring to/from another State Coaching Association, you will need to supply a Transfer of Membership form. Complete this form and if Category 2, 1 or R, attach a copy of your current First Aid certificate or Nursing Registration, current Working With Children Check or VIT Registration and supply the date you purchased the ACF Calisthenic Technical Guide. You will receive membership papers in the mail (if joining VCCA) and will then need to pay membership for year. If joining another state association, you will receive from VCCA a letter stating you had previously been a VCCA member.

 Deregistration

Deregistration will be imposed by the VCCA Committee if one of the membership requirements for your Category of membership are not met.

A warning letter/email will be sent to you giving a deadline to meet the membership requirement. If after that deadline, the membership requirement is still not met, the committee may deregister you. This will be advised by mail. If deregistered for the first time, you are able to rejoin immediately for attendance deregistration, or upon paying membership fees or after supplying new First Aid/Nursing Registration or Working With Children Check/VIT Registration. If deregistered for a second time, you will not be able to rejoin the VCCA for a period of 12 months. Your Club/College will receive written notification of your deregistration in both instances.

All coaches are permitted to appeal a deregistration and any such appeal should be put in writing with supporting documentation for submission to the next available committee meeting. You will be advised by mail or email whether your request has been approved.
